Dorothy nasceu na Grã - Bretanha em 1891. Estudou na conhecida Blackheath School of Art, e durante a sua carreira viveu e trabalhou em Plumstead, Kent, e Esher, Surrey.
Para criar os seus trabalhos, utilizava principalmente as aguarelas, tendo ilustrado muitos livros infantis e postais.
Ficou famosa pelos livros por si ilustrados da autoria de Enid Blyton, como é o caso de " The Faraway Tree" e " The Enchanted Wood".
